I've been "tagged" - how fun!

So - I usually don't do these but perhaps it's a fun way to let you get to know me a tad better! My friend Andrea "tagged" me after she responded to these questions on her blog so now it's my turn. Here I go:

What were you doing 10 years ago?
I was a thirteen year old Junior High student in Oakdale. I really don't remember a whole lot but what comes to mind is the fact that I did like junior high, even more then high school actually (although college years were my favorite. . .how sad that I have to use the word "were" now! Although not sad in the sense that I don't have to take finals this week. . .). I was involved at church but didn't really fit in with some of the girls there and would come home crying sometimes. I was taking ballet twice a week and dreaming about dancing on pointe one day. . .that dream became a reality (a painful but totally worth it one)! I already liked to bake and eat sweats - it was around this time that my best friend and I made a Martha Steward video, little did we know what would become of her. So, that's about all that comes to mind right now - ah, the simple life.

What were you doing 5 years ago?
On March 15th, 2003 I was 18 years old and gearing up to graduate from high school. . .and very excited about that. I knew that I would be headed to Cal Poly, SLO and I actually was not excited about that - I wanted to have more of a say in where I would go to college. . .but thankfully the Lord knew exactly what He was doing in sending me there! I was dancing on pointe and was getting ready for my last dance recital. I was the "moon" and had moonbeams and stars that danced with me. I was working hard on scholarship applications including the full-ride Leo Volz, which my current roommate and I would later both receive, what a blessing! I didn't have many close friends at school at this point because many began living a lifestyle I wasn't comfortable with. Thankfully my church family became more and more important in my life and I found myself very busy with activities there, working for my parents, and simply being an 18 year old.

5 things on my to-do list today:
(I'll list 5 things for tomorrow. . .since things like brushing my teeth before bed is a little mundane)
1. go for a run - the weather is amazing and SLO is so green right now. I'm really not a good runner BUT I enjoy the time to be with the Lord and center my thoughts on Him as a new day is about to begin.
2. wear green - yes, it'll be St. Patrick's Day. . . I've been waiting for this day since it passed last year, I might just go all out and make sure that every article of clothing is of this wonderful hue!
3. go to the staff planning day from 10-5; I find these days to be rather intense, lots of planning, vision casting, evaluating - but also lots of prayer and fellowship. I'm so thankful for our team and how the Lord is directing us!
4. drop off stroopwafels (see www.thefoodloveconnection.blogspot.com) and the movie I borrowed from Brenna - the stroopwafels are for her to take to a Destino study session - I thought I would share a bit of my culture with them!
5. abide in Christ - this is on my to-do list daily but I wouldn't say that I check it off daily. Too often I try to abide in myself and of course this leads to frustration and failure. John 15:5 is the way to go!

What snacks I enjoy:
Hum - like most, I like snacks. . .and probably too much! Right now I'm really into grapefruits as well as snack-size bags of kettle popcorn. I also like celery and peanut butter and pretzels from Trader Joe's. That's what comes to mind right now. . .although, I'm sure there's more!

What would I do if I suddenly became a billionaire?
First off I would pray! I would pray that I would know, and never forget, that this billion dollars is actually the Lord's, and then I would pray for wisdom on how it should be used for His Kingdom and the furtherance of His glory. I would help support lots of missionaries, my church, and whatever the Lord brings my way. And I would love to fly out to Holland to scope out ministry opportunities for me there. Oh, and I've been itching to go to Israel so I'd look into that as well!

Three bad habits:
1. I check blogs and facebook too often (I am going to set a goal of check others blogs only once a week next quarter. . .hold me to it!)
2. I eat too much sugar and my love for baking doesn't help with that!
3. Not finishing books that I've started - although I'm working on this. . .slowly but surely!

Five places I've lived:
1. Escalon, CA
2. Oakdale, CA
3. San Luis Obispo, CA
4. Amsterdam, The Netherlands (for a summer. . .does that count?)
5. hum . . . we'll this summer I'll live in Santa Monica for 5 weeks so I'll just add that here now!

Five jobs I've had:
1. cheese girl. . .selling the family goods at farmers markets - getting my license was so bitter sweet, although I actually really liked this job usually.
2. babysitting - the church was a great hook-up for this
3. sandwich maker at The Sandwich Factory on the Cal Poly campus
4. child care assistant at the Cal Poly Children's Center
5. full-time missionary. . .my favorite thus far!

Five things you don't know about me:
1. I really like the smell of certain perfumes on people and will be very quick to compliment them on this!
2. If I were competitive (I'm still not at all!) I would rewind back to my high school years and join the swim team. . .then my current technique would be better and who knows - maybe I would have been en route to the summer Olympics!
3. I used to hate spinach (it made my tongue feel funny) and cashews (they tasted like plastic) growing up and now I love both those things - oh how my taste buds have been refined!
4. I don't own an apron even though I spend so much time in the kitchen you think I would have earned one by now!
5. I have never been really obsessed with any movie stars or musicians until I discovered Shawn McDonald. . .thanks to my friend in Wisconsin. It's the first time I have ever bought a CD on it's release date for fear that it would sell out - his voice and lyrics are amazing!

I tag. . .
anyone who has a blog (or is going to start one as a result of reading this amazing post) and who found it interesting to learn these things about me - now it's your turn. Have fun and I'll be checking. . .hopefully not too frequently. . .to see if you've updated lately. Have a blessed week!

Will you please take a picture of yourself (or have a picture taken of you) in your full green attire? Thanks!

happy st. patrick's day!!! (we should rename this day "arijaan's favorite color day".)

LOVE this post! ah, a trip down memory lane... and it's nice to reflect on where we've been and where we are now-- to think that it was all planned for us is pure craziness (in the "wow" sense... not "mentally instable"). i think you should post a link to the martha stewart video. do you remember when we caught a snippet from her show and she was working out and doing all the exercises wrong?! ha =)
